The Merchant of Venice

Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice centers on Antonio, who risks a lethal bond (a pound of flesh) to borrow money from Shylock for Bassanio’s pursuit of Portia. When Antonio defaults, Portia disguises as a lawyer, outwitting Shylock in court by forbidding bloodshed.
